SKWC Season IV Announced!
Xander Clements August 4, 2014
After the closing Season III with the tightest championship battle to date, the Sim Karting World Championship is back and ready for more less than three months afterwards. Officially today, both team and driver sign ups are live on the forums page, and while the official schedule still has one track to be announced, the other three have download links prepared and loaded.
Last season, Corrie Hiatt (Birel) came out on top by a mere three points over runner-up Phillippe Denes (Zanardi), and both have plans to compete again for the title. Corrie looks to repeat with his same team, although only to be joined by Matt Solarczyk on Birel Motorsport, as both Matt Keyes and Marco Eakins left the team after the conclusion of the last season. At the end of the season as well, Zanardi USA announced that it would be pulling out of the Sim Karting World Championship after Sonoma, and went through with such. This left Denes without a team for the upcoming season, which he found within the past week after talks with Braden Eves (Tony Kart).
Setting up for the next season, Denes will be teaming up with Eves on J3 Competition, which should definitely be a force to be reckoned with. Eves announced the creation of the team yesterday, and after a private interview today, Eves confirmed that Phillippe Denes would be piloting the second kart for the team. No word has been said yet on whether Denes will be the only other driver on the team, or if Eves is looking for more to add.
One thing that makes Season IV different is the addition of the Constructor's championship. This point total will run alongside the driver point standings, with the top 2 scoring drivers from each event tallying up the point total for their team. Just as the drivers, the constructor's championship will also offer one drop race out of the four events, allowing for a mishap or not making the final event in a race to not completely eliminate their championship hopes. A total of five teams have been formed and enlisted in SKWC's first Constructor's cup, all of which having the capacity to compete for the title.
